Some of our all-time favorite cartoons from our younger days have taught us that cats and dogs don’t get along. Their disagreements have been portrayed in funny manners that convinced us these creatures are sworn enemies.
The truth is that science says the same.
Scientists state that the innate rivalry between canines and felines has existed for millions of years, long before they were domesticated, and that is the reason why the stories of friendships between cats and dogs are our favorite.
Lane Dyer, of Edmond, Oklahoma, is a proud mom of a 6-year-old Havanese dog named Oakley, and a black cat named Binx.
Binx appeared on Dyer’s doorstep when she was still a little kitten, around two-months old.
Oakley and Binx have been “polar opposites,” but they have always got along well.
Recently, Binx proved just how great of a friend she is when she stepped up for Oakley and saved her from an unexpected coyote attack.
Oakley was left out of the house to use the bathroom when she was suddenly attacked by the wild animal. Being tiny, she couldn’t defend herself and was overpowered by the coyote.
As she struggled to get away, another coyote appeared. Oakley was helpless. Luckily, Binx witness the scary attack and decided to act. She ran towards the wild animals and scared them off.
Oakley was badly hurt, “gushing blood” from her chest. Her leg was also injured, but vets tried to save it from being amputated.
Once the ordeal was over, the family checked the security cameras and that’s when they realized it was the cat who saved her doggy friend.
Sharing the video for her social media friends and followers to see, she captioned it, “the craziest thing ever.
Speaking to Dyer said, “I was kind of inspired by it, quite frankly. It was inspiring to see just our little outdoor cat just jump at two coyotes that were attacking this little dog who she loves and run them off.”
Oakley needed surgery in order to recover fully, but she’s happy she’s got someone like her cat friend who’s got her back.
